Terry L. Balzum

Terry LaRue Balzum was born December 14, 1946, in Ada, MN, to Herman "Jeff" and Bernice (Rockstad) Balzum. Terry was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Ada. He graduated from Ada High School in 1964. During his high school years, Terry worked at the Norman County Index in Ada.

Following graduation, Terry entered the Army National Guard and received his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Terry married Judith Meyer at Lake Grove Lutheran Church, near Waubun, MN, on January 27, 1968. They lived in Onamia, MN, where Terry owned the local newspaper, the Onamia Independent.

They moved to Longview, WA, where Terry worked for Columbia Printing Company as a Certified Forms Consultant. They moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1990, and Terry worked for Gateway Chevrolet and FRS Industries. Judy died November 14, 1995.

Terry died Tuesday, May 10, 2016, in Vibra Hospital, Fargo, ND, at sixty-nine years of age.

Terry enjoyed cats, reading science fiction, and watching Star Trek. One of his prized possessions was his 1968 Shelby Cobra. He enjoyed aircraft of many types, especially the P51 Mustang. Terry made a number of trips to Reno, NV, for the National Championship Air Races.

Terry is survived by his sister, Leigh Kelly, Ada; an aunt, Ardis Rockstad, Ada; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held Monday, May 16, 2016, at 3 PM, in Riverside Cemetery, Mahnomen, MN.
