Thecella J. Dahl

February 7, 1918 — July 13, 2008

Thecella J. Dahl, 90, died peacefully at MeritCare Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, ND, on Sunday, July 13, 2008.

Thecella Jeanette Bakken was born February 7, 1918, to Theodore and Jeanette Bakken, in Vining, MN. She received her education in Vining, where their home was the local telephone office. She worked in the telephone office, and at the age of 16, became Assistant Postmaster in Vining.

On March 15, 1936, Thecella married Bert Dahl. They lived in Pelican Rapids, MN, and had a son, Richard "Dick" Dahl. In 1942, they moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area, where Thecella worked as a clerk at JC Penney's downtown Fargo, and was a housewife and mother. She was a member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church and would often volunteer there. She was creative and very much enjoyed being a member of a local craft circle.

Joining friends and family for coffee and meals was important to Thecella. In 1987, Bert died, and in 1988, her son, Dick, died. Thecella continued to make her home in Moorhead. She became a resident of Bethany Towers in 2002, where she made friends easily and learned to love bingo.

Thecella is survived by three grandchildren, Dawn (Ryan) Peterson, Henning, MN, Dave (Kelli) Dahl, Dilworth, MN, and Daphne Dahl, Fargo; five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jessey, Brittaney, Zacharey, and Mason; and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, her daughter-in-law, Barb; sister, Mildred; and brother, Ted.
