Thelma Harris, 88, Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, in Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Thelma Marie Brekke was born to Martin and Tillie Brekke on January 31, 1919, in Fisher, MN, where she grew up and graduated from Fisher High School. On December 1, 1939, she married Jack Harris in Fisher. They made their home in Fosston, MN, Crookston, MN, Detroit Lakes, for a couple of years in southern California, and Moorhead. Jack died March 24, 1996.
Thelma was always involved in music and sang in church and community choirs. She was also active in community organizations such as Business and Professional Women, Damiens, Chamber of Commerce, garden and book clubs, and church and community choirs. Thelma and her husband owned and operated Harris Music Center located in Crookston and later in Detroit Lakes. Thelma enjoyed working at the Browser Bookstore and volunteering at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead. But, mostly, she loved gathering her family and friends around her. There were many celebratory dinners at her home. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Irvin Brekke. She is survived by a sister, Verna (Lee) Affeldt; a daughter, Jacquelyn (William) Walker; a son, Gary (Gaye) Harris; eight grandchildren, Bryan (Sue) Harris, Gina (Phil) Kinney, Bradley (Laura) Harris, Ginger (Chad) Nesbit, John (Min) Ehlers, David (Sachiko) Ehlers, Michael Stensgaard, and Adam Stensgaard; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral Service: Friday, June 29, 2007, at 10:30 AM, in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead.
Burial: Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
