Thomas “Tom” G. Campbell, 72, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Lilac Homes in Moorhead, MN. He is now free from his struggles with Parkinson’s disease.
Thomas G. Campbell was born on September 5, 1951, in Minneapolis, MN to Cecil “Pete” and Eleanor (Hadfield) Campbell. Tom grew up in south Minneapolis and graduated from Central High School in 1969. He proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Air National Guard. During that same time he worked at the U.S. Post Office while attending airplane mechanic school.
In 1974, Tom went to work at the Minneapolis Metropolitan Transit Council. He was a proud member of ATU #1005 and served as a union steward for many years. He also worked as a volunteer for the Minnesota DFL, and had the privilege of driving the big green campaign bus for Senator Paul Wellstone.
After his well-deserved retirement from MTC in 2009, Tom moved to Moorhead, MN where he married Nancy (Kerch) Oltvedt on October 15, 2011. Throughout his life, Tom especially loved to spend time with family and friends at the cabin on Sugar Lake where he enjoyed sailing, waterskiing, fishing, scuba diving, and constantly repairing the family cabin. Tom also loved pheasant hunting with his dogs, Bronze and Zeke, cross-country skiing, and playing hockey. Tom liked to play cribbage and uno and would quite often win even when he didn’t have a hidden card “up his sleeve”. Tom could “tinker" with anything and everything, building and fixing things, whether they needed it or not. Tom was a friend to many people, and was always ready to offer a helping hand; he was truly a neighborhood treasure.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy; daughter, Kelsey (Eric) Jezierski, Farmington, MN; stepchildren, Sara (Dan Olson) Oltvedt, Fargo, ND, and John Oltvedt, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Brooke and Wyatt Jezierski, Camden Oltvedt, and Eleanora Oltvedt. Brothers, William “Bill” (Marilyn) Campbell, and Robert “Bob” (Paula) Campbell, both of Sun City West, AZ; sister, Kathryn “Kay” (Jeff) Arnold, Walker, MN, and Janet (Mark) Curley, Woodbury, MN; many nieces and nephews; and his loyal dog and best friend Kaiser. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard “Dick” Campbell; and granddaughter, Josephine Oltvedt.
