Val Gumto Halverson

Val Gumto Halverson, age 84, of Fargo, North Dakota, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, in Bethany Homes, Fargo.
Arvella Anderson, known to all as Val, was born December 23, 1923, in Granite Falls, MN, toAxel and Laura (Mattison) Anderson. At the age of 13 she moved with her family to Lamberton, MN, and later to McGrath, MN, where she graduated from high school.
On March 29, 1943, Val married William Gumto in Minneapolis, MN. Following their marriage, they lived in Minneapolis, Waseca, Duluth, and Champlin, all Minnesota. While living in the twin cities, Val worked at a clinic in Anoka, MN. After retiring in 1976, Val and William traveled, wintered in Florida, and spent most summers in Minnesota. In 1982, they made their home in Dilworth, MN, and in 1987, moved to Moorhead, MN. William died May 16, 1990, and Val continued to live in Moorhead.
On April 12, 1996, Val married Vern Halverson. They lived in Moorhead. After Vern's death December 1, 2007, Val continued to live in Moorhead, until recently becoming a resident of Bethany Homes in Fargo.
Val is survived by a son, Richard (Sharon) Gumto, Chandler, AZ; two grandsons, Michael (Nancy) Gumto, Gilbert, AZ, and Mark (Amy) Gumto, Maricopa, AZ; a great-granddaughter, Alexis; and a sister, Marlys Anderson. In addition to her two husbands, William Gumto and Vern Halverson; Val was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and two brothers.
