Valborg "Vallie" Berdal

Valborg “Vallie” Marie Berdal, 95, Fargo, ND, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Eventide Transitional Care, Fargo, ND, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Vallie was born March 25, 1929, in Northwood, ND, to Norin and Hilda (Hovland) Korsmo.  She graduated from Northwood High School and attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN.  Vallie met the love of her life, Ingvald “Ing” Berdal and they were married June 27, 1953, in Northwood. 

They lived in Petersburg, Cooperstown, and Bismarck, ND.  Following Ing’s passing on April 16, 2016, Vallie lived at Parkwood in Grand Forks, ND, and most recently at Touchmark in Fargo.  

Vallie was well known for her hospitality and was a good cook and baker.  She was also eager to share her faith.  Vallie served on the board of STEER, Inc., an was active in Gideons International Auxiliary

Vallie is survived by her daughter, Karen (Lyle) Shephard, Crystal, ND; sons, Alan (Darla), Knoxville, TN, and David (Allison), Fargo; seven grandchildren, Kali (Danny) Luecke, Thomas (Samantha) Shephard, Lisa (Andrew) Aipperspach, Kari Berdal, Emily Berdal, Hannah Berdal, and Benjamin Berdal;  great-grandchildren, Kamila and Eliza Luecke, Selah and Shiloh Shephard, and Silas and Ruby Aipperspach; brother, Richard Korsmo; sisters-in-law, Mary Korsmo and Joan Korsmo; many special nieces and nephews; and step-grandchildren, Randall (Anni), Maddy, Jack, Elly, and Will Kenninger.

Vallie was preceded in death by her husband, Ing; son, Luther Berdal; siblings, Joseph Korsmo, Peder (Beatrice) Korsmo, Alvin Korsmo, Solveig Strand, Norin Korsmo, Dolores Korsmo, and Lenore (Wes) Meland; and in-laws, Erick (Dorothy) Berdal, Fred (Marian) Berdal, and Leonard (Marlys) Berdal.

Visitation will be from 1 – 3 PM, with her funeral at 3 PM, Friday, April 12, 2024, at Calvary Church at Village Green, Moorhead.   

Memorials may be directed to Gideons International, STEER, Inc., or Northwood South Cemetery, Northwood.
