Velaria Helen Heitkamp was born January 11, 1920, in Barney, ND, to Herman and Katherine (Krump) Heitkamp. Velaria graduated from high school at Wahpeton, ND, and Wahpeton State School of Science.
Velaria was united in marriage to Victor Kath on October 18, 1948, in Breckenridge, MN, and they moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1952. She worked for First National Bank in Breckenridge, and US West Bank, in Fargo until she retired in 1980.
Velaria died Monday, July 4, 2011, at Essentia Health, Fargo, at ninety-one years of age.
Velaria loved to spend time with and care for her family, to quilt and sew, to cook,
and to spoil her granchildren. She was a life member of the Moorhead VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary, as well as Christian Mothers.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Victor, Fargo; three sons, James (Joan) Kath, Moorhead, MN, Paul (Candyce) Kath, Brainerd, MN, and Mark (Tammy) Kath, Lakeville, MN; a daughter, Kathryn Hovey, Pelican Rapids, MN; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Adolph Heitkamp, Breckenridge; and two sisters, Veronia Schmit, Sartell, MN, and Helen King, Detroit Lakes, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ed and Lawrence Heitkamp; two sisters, Leona Cox and Alvina Schlough; and son-in-law, Ivan Hovey.
Visitation for Velaria will be Friday, July 8, 2011, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Her funeral mass will be Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 10:30 AM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
