Vendla Blakeway

Vendla Cecelia Blakeway, 98, went home to Heaven on Friday, October 31, 2014, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, at Elim Care, Fargo, ND.

Vendla was born on August 5, 1916, to William and Esther (Larson) Nelson in Moorhead, MN. After graduating from Moorhead High School, she worked for the S.S. Kresge Company in Fargo, until her marriage to Sidney Blakeway in 1950.

Ven had a strong faith that was seen in her daily walk with her Lord, and in her responses to the joys and trials of life. Her love for God was revealed in the raising of her two daughters, Barbara and Beverly, and the care she gave to her sisters, Olive and Estelle, in their failing health. Also, the love she showed to her grandchildren, David, John, and Anna, and her service to her church.

Ven will be remembered for her strength, thoughtfulness, kindness, generosity, creativity, beauty, and spirit of gratitude.

She is survived by daughters, Barbara Jellison, and Beverly (Greg) Marcy; and grandchildren, David Streifel, John Streifel, and Anna Marcy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Olive Nelson, and Estelle Nelson; and an infant son.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 6, 2014, from 2 - 4 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Burial will take place in Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead.
