Vera Hochstetler

Vera Adeline Heldt was born November 26, 1928, in Glyndon, MN, to John and Emogene (Leach) Heldt. Vera was raised in the Glyndon area where she graduated from high school. She attended Interstate Business College, Fargo, ND, for one year.

Vera was united in marriage to Orby Hochstetler on December 23, 1952, in Moorhead, MN, and they lived in a number of southern states while Orby finished his military duty. Following his discharge, they settled in the Glyndon area. Vera worked for American Crystal Sugar, Moorhead, for a number of years.

They eventually moved to Moorhead, MN, and Orby died November 13, 2007. Vera continued to make her home in Moorhead. She died Sunday, January 22, 2017, in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND, at eighty-eight years of age.

Vera's faith and love for God was very important to her throughout her life. She loved flower gardening, coffee, conversation, spending time with her family and "gallivanting."

Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. She is survived by her three sons, Dale (Lyn), Lead, SD, Dean (Carri), Buffalo, MN, and Duane (Laurie), Clear Lake, MN; a daughter, Dawn (Brad) Nelson, Glyndon; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Hochstetler (Mark), Tim Hochstetler, Kelli (Cody) Griffin, Kalynn (Dusty) Lerud, Rachel Hochstetler and Dustin Hochstetler, and Amy (Matt) Anderson; nine great-grandchildren, Steven, Caleb, Jalen, Carlos, Coregan, Morgan, Vivian, Cole, and Clay; brother, Virgil (Darlene) Heldt; sisters, Lila Erickson, Fergus Falls, MN, Hazel (George) Retzlaff, Vergas, MN, Carol (Ron) Kirkhorn, Moorhead, Esther (Bruce) Ellingson, Glyndon, and Geraldine "Gerri" (Gordon) Slabaugh, Cambridge, MN; and a brother-in-law, John Bahma, Oak Park Heights, MN.

In addition to her husband, Vera was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Bahma.

Gathering of friends will be Saturday, February 4, 2017, from 1 - 2 PM, with a Memorial Service at 2 PM, in Heartland Community Church, West Fargo, ND.
