Vernard H. Halverson

January 17, 1927 — December 1, 2007

Vernard Harris Halverson, the son of Harris and Mildred (Bauman) Halverson, was born in International Falls, MN, on January 17, 1927. At the age of 2, he moved with his family to Duluth, MN. In 1932, they moved first to rural Bagley, MN, and later into Bagley. In 1945, Vern served two years in the US Army. After his discharge, he returned to Bagley.
In 1950, Vern moved to Minneapolis, MN, where he worked for Honeywell.
On April 5, 1957, Vern was married to Vernabell Sink in Minneapolis, where they lived. They later moved to Hallock, MN, where they owned and operated a Coast to Coast hardware store. In 1975, they moved to Hawley, MN, where they also owned and operated a Coast to Coast Hardware store.
In 1986, Vern began working in the Fargo-Moorhead area, first at Park Christian School, then Elder's Communication, and finally at the Moorhead Coast to Coast store. In March of 1993, the couple moved from Hawley into Moorhead. Vernabell died in 1994, and Vern retired later that year.

On April 12, 1996, Vern married Val Gumto in Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church, Moorhead, where they made their home. His faith and church were important to him, and he expressed this in his work at the church. He enjoyed his coffee times and fellowship with many good friends.
Vern was a humble, kind and caring man, who is survived by his wife, Val, of Moorhead; two daughters, Denise (Jim) Larson, Moorhead, and Barbara Halverson, Fargo; two granddaughters, BreAnne and Katie Larson; and a sister, Maureen (Don) Jacobson, of Galesburg, ND, and their son, Wade.
