Vernice Evangeline Edenstrom was born March 15, 1913, in Wolverton, MN, to Edward and Olga (Jacobson) Edenstrom. She was raised on a farm near Wolverton and received her education in the rural school system.

On October 26, 1937, Vernice was married to Bernhard E. Johnson and they made their home on a farm near Wolverton. In 1946, they moved to Wolverton.
Bernhard died on June 22, 2001, and Vernice continued to make her home in Wolverton until moving to Pelican Rapids, MN, in 2003, when she became a resident of the Pelican Rapids Good Samaritan Center. It was there that she died on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at the age of ninety-five.

Vernice loved to collect antiques, garden and sew. She was also known for her beautician skills and for her artistic creations of wood fiber and chenille flowers. Summers were often spent in the strawberry or raspberry patches picking berries to sell. For many years she spent several weeks in the fall picking potatoes for area farmers.

She is survived by two sons, Gary (Janis) Johnson, Breckenridge, MN, and James (Carol) Johnson, Pelican Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Johnson, Rochert, MN; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Raynard; and a son, Douglas in 2005.
