Vernice Stella Melvina Norell was born February 9, 1920, on the farm near Maddock, ND to Ernest and Amanda (Hakanson) Norell. She attended Arne rural school near Maddock and graduated in 1937 from Benson County Agricultural and Training School in Maddock. After two years attending Moorhead State Teachers College, Vernice taught in Bertha, MN, Warren, MN and Detroit Lakes, MN. After a year as the band instructor in Rolette, ND, she furthered her education at the University of Minnesota, receiving her degree in Music Education. On August 1, 1948, Vernice was united in marriage to Willard Lindquist in Klara Lutheran Church, rural Heimdal, ND. They lived in Ellendale, ND for two years before moving to Elbow Lake, MN. While in Elbow Lake, they welcomed their son, Gary and daughter, Gwen into the family. In 1961, they settled in Moorhead.

In the various communities Vernice lived, it never took her long to become an active community volunteer. She was part of study clubs, Homemakers, Bible study, local church women groups, along with being the organist, and junior/senior choir director. With her love for piano, Vernice taught private lessons to many students throughout the years.
Vernice enjoyed entertaining, rosemaling, traveling and spending time at the lake cabin on Big Sugar Bush Lake. Her greatest love was her family, helping her aging parents, enjoying activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very proud of her three grandsons who brought much joy into her life.

Vernice will be remembered and missed by her two children, Gary Lindquist and Gwen (Ron) Fraase. She is also survived by her three grandsons, Justin (Megan) Fraase, Andrew (Danielle) Fraase and Micah (Kolby) Fraase; along with three great-grandchildren, Liv, Graham and Callum; one sister-in-law, Delores Norell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
