Vernon W. Poverud, 77, Fairmount, ND, died Saturday at his daughter's home in Ada, MN, of natural causes.
Vernon Poverud was born May 10, 1934, at Appleton, MN, to Irvin and Edna Poverud. He grew up and attended school in the Sedan, MN, area. On July 14, 1956, he married Janice Reuss at Holloway, MN.
Vernon did a variety of jobs including truck driving, construction, welding and manufacturing; and he especially enjoyed working at Chahinkapa Zoo and Park in Wahpeton, ND.
Vernon and Janice retired and moved to Fairmount, ND. They spent retirement days singing and ministering at area nursing homes for fourteen years.
Vernon is survived his wife, Janice, Fairmount; four children, Keith (finance, Karen Rittman) Warren, MN, Kathryn (Kenny) Strandberg, Ada, Kenneth (Tensia) San Antonio, TX, and Carol (Ron) Krump, Kent, MN; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-one great- grandchildren.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Eldon, Diane, Arvid and Janet.
Prayer Service: Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at 7 PM, at New Life Christian Center, Wahpeton.
Memorial Service: Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 1 PM at Word Fellowship Church, Appleton, MN.
