Vexona Kemmer Hanson, known to all as "Zoni", died Thursday, June 30, 2016, in ManorCare Health Services, Fargo, ND, at the age of 94.
Vexona Clarice Nichols was born in Ada, MN, on August 20, 1921, the daughter of Orville and Clara (Jacobson) Nichols. She grew up in Borup, MN, where she graduated from high school. She later attended Moorhead State Teachers College, where she received her teaching certificate.
Zoni taught in a one-room school near Borup. During WW II, she moved to Seattle, WA, where she worked for Boeing Aircraft. On November 18, 1944, she was married to John "Jack" Kemmer in Borup. After his discharge from the service, the couple made their home in Fargo. Mr. Kemmer died in September of 1972.
On Oct. 29, 1977, Zoni married Roy Hanson, and they lived in Fargo. Zoni worked as a secretary and in the office of AAG - American Empire Insurance, until she retired.
Roy died in May of 1997, and Zoni continued to live in Fargo. She recently became a resident of ManorCare, Fargo. She will be remembered as an avid reader and a person who loved to knit and crochet.
Zoni is survived by her son, Jay (Vicki) Kemmer, Moorhead; grandchildren, Jack (Lucretia) Johnston, Jadean (Janelle) Johnston, Blair (Natasha) Kemmer, and Brent (Jackie) Nesdahl; and a great-grandson, Preston Kemmer.
She was preceded in death by both husbands; a daughter, Peggie Nesdahl; her parents; and six sisters and brothers.
A memorial service for Zoni will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at 2 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
