Vinton Floberg, 73, Hawley, MN, died Wednesday, September 3, 2003, in Moorhead (MN) Healthcare Center.
Vinton Herbrand Ragnor Floberg was born January 12, 1930, in Skree Township, near Hawley, on the H.H. Engen farm, to Oluf and Tilda (Engen) Floberg. Vinton was raised in Hawley where he attended school. Vinton was a lifetime member of Hegland Lutheran Church, where he was baptized April 20, 1930 and confirmed June 27, 1943. The family lived six miles from Hegland Lutheran Church, but they regularly attended Hawley Lutheran Church because of road conditions and questionable transportation. Hawley Lutheran was almost right in their back yard as well.
Vinton didn't care for school and at fifteen years of age, began full-time work at Peterson Brother's Grocery in Hawley when there was a labor shortage during WW II. He learned the meat-cutting trade and became the meat-cutter for Peterson Brothers, and later for several different meat markets in the Fargo-Moorhead area. At one time, Vinton started a restaurant in the Winden addition of Hawley, and he later purchased the Garrick Theater. In the early 1980's, Vinton worked as a custodian at Concordia College, Moorhead.
In September 1948, he and his twin brother, Vincent, joined the Minnesota National Guard in Moorhead. On January 16, 1951, they were activated to serve in the Korean War. Vinton served in Korea and was honorably discharged in May 1952. Vinton never married.
Vinton is survived by his brothers, Maurice (Garnet), Moorhead, and Vincent (Alice), Pelican Rapids, MN, a sister, Vivian Wensel, Moorhead, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Clifton, Orville and LeRoy.
