Virgene "Gene" Frenette, 90, died peacefully at home in Moorhead, MN, on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, surrounded by those who loved her, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Virgene Louise Olson, the daughter of Leonard and Helen (Perry) Olson, was born August 14, 1927, in Fargo, ND. She grew up in Moorhead, where she graduated from high school. She graduated from NDSU in Fargo, with a degree in home economics. Gene taught school in Crookston, MN, for one year prior to her marriage.
On August 18, 1950, Gene was married to Jack C. Frenette, in Fargo. They made their home in Moorhead. Gene worked as a long-term substitute teacher in local school systems, and later assisted her husband, Jack, by handling many office chores in his electrical business.
Gene was a wonderful wife and mother, who in her spare time enjoyed gardening and reading. She was very active in Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Fargo, where she taught Sunday school and was very involved in many forms of children's ministry. Her family and faith were central in her life. She continued to grow deeper through women's ministry groups and home Bible study. She read through the Bible every year for 17 years.
Gene was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Jack, who died on February 4, 2016. She is survived by her daughter, Michele Frenette, Moorhead; her son, Dr. Michael Frenette, Bismarck, ND; grandsons, Dr. Aaron Frenette, Kansas City, MO, and Dr. Brian Frenette, Bismarck; and a brother, Bruce (Betty) Olson, of Oregon.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice of the Red River Valley for their loving care and to the many friends whose prayers and visits uplifted her.
A memorial service for Gene will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at 2 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
