Virginia Almen Quanrud Waith passed away Monday, May 3, 2010, at age ninety-two, at Eventide the Fairmont in Moorhead, MN.
Virginia was born in rural Park River, ND, on January 14, 1918, to Lars and Hulda (Anderson) Almen. She attended rural schools and Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River, graduating in 1935.
Virginia married Roy Quanrud of Buxton, ND, November 26, 1939. They lived primarily in Park River and Northwood, ND. Roy passed away in August, 1965, after which Virginia moved to Grand Forks and attended Aaker's Business College. Upon graduation, she worked as the deputy Grand Forks County auditor until 1976.
In July 1976, Virginia married Edward Waith of Grand Forks. Edward died in 1978. In 1980, Virginia became involved in the Foster Grandparents Program of Grand Forks County. Her primary assignment as a foster grandmother was at Lewis and Clark Elementary School in Grand Forks. She continued with the program until 2009 when she moved to Moorhead.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Sheila Quanrud (husband, Mohan) Advani, of Rockville, MD; son, Richard (wife, Marlene Kjelland) Quanrud, of Fargo; brother, Lennart (Marjorie) Almen of Park River; grandchildren, Ranjiv (Tari) Advani, of Freeport, ME, Sanjay (Rachel) Advani, of Fort Collins, CO, Sarah Quanrud, of Worcester, MA, Stephen Quanrud (Jianglisen Dabuer), of Fargo, Sean (Karla) Burke, of Colorado Springs, CO, and Erica Burke, of Lincoln, NE; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands; a sister, Margaret Johnson; a brother, Paul Almen; and a daughter, Carolyn Burke.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 5, 2010, from 5:30 pm - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Fargo, at 11 AM.
Interment will be Thursday at Northwood Cemetery, Northwood, ND, at 3 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Virginia Waith Memorial Fund at Lewis and Clark Elementary School, Grand Forks, ND.
