Vivian (Holson) Svobodny, age 93, a life-long Moorhead resident, died Friday, January 31, 2014, in Eventide on Eighth, in Moorhead, MN.
Vivian Corinne Holson, was born June 3, 1920, in Moorhead, to Ole and Mea (Sutter) Holsen. She grew up and received her education in Moorhead where she attended Park Elementary School and graduated from Moorhead High School on June 3, 1938. After graduation, she worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Fargo, ND.
On September 7, 1946, Vivian married Harold Svobodny in Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, where they made their home.
After Harold retired, they took many bus tours of the United States, volunteered at the FM Food Pantry and delivered Meals on Wheels. Harold died on June 11, 2006, after 60 years of marriage. Vivian was a fan of the Minnesota Twins, Vikings and the Moorhead High School Spuds.
Vivian was active in Bethesda Lutheran Church, where she was a life-long member. She taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school, was a lay-reader and a Bethesda "quilter" for 40 years; making many quilts for Lutheran World Relief and local needs. She took part in Bethesda plays, was a member of a circle and the fellowship group.
Vivian is survived by five children, David and John, both of Minneapolis, MN, Richard (Laureen), Audubon, MN, Loree (Dan) Alverson, Moorhead, and Cindy Svobodny, Moorhead; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn; and a brother, Arling.
