Vivian L. Wensel

Vivian L. Wensel, 79, of Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Elim Care and Rehab Center in Fargo, ND.

Vivian Lorraine Floberg was born on February 26, 1934, in Hawley, MN, to Oluf and Tilda (Engen) Floberg. Vivian graduated from Hawley High School and attended Moorhead State University, where she earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in Education. She married Fred Wensel on April 14, 1957, at Hegland Lutheran Church in rural Hawley.

Vivian taught at Concordia College, Moorhead, in the Department of Physical Education for 35 years, until her retirement in 1997. She loved teaching and getting to know her students. Her May Seminars were always an adventure for all involved.

Vivian was very active and enjoyed biking, skiing, volunteering, and especially golfing. She golfed in many leagues in the Detroit Lakes (MN) area, and very much enjoyed the friends she made. Her numerous trips to Europe and China, especially with the Bakken group, were something she looked forward to. Her most memorable trip was her most recent, where she was finally able to both bike and golf in Norway.

Vivian was a very active member in the Sons of Norway. She volunteered with many different groups, including the Moorhead Volunteer Police Department, Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Red Cross and Concordia College.

Survivors include her children, Jennifer (Kurt) Gummer of Bozeman, MT, and Fritz (Rhonda) Wensel of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Sean and Ryan Gummer of Bozeman, Heather Wensel of St. Cloud, MN, and Kevin Wensel of Fargo; great-granddaughter, Sienna; two brothers, Vincent (Alice) Floberg of Pelican Rapids, MN, and Maurice (Garnet) Floberg of Moorhead; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; her brothers, Orville, Vernon "LeRoy", Vinton, and Clifton "Sonny".

Gathering for Friends: Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service 6:30 PM, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead.
Celebration of Life Service: Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at 11:00 AM, in Hegland Lutheran Church, rural Hawley, MN.
Interment: Hegland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hawley.
