Walburga M. Williams, 92, Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019, in River Pointe of Moorhead.
Walburga Pohl was born on December 7, 1926, in Warnsdorf Sudetenland, Czechoslovakia, to Alfred and Maria (Schober) Pohl. Warnsdorf was a German-speaking area of what is now the Czech Republic. After WWII, her family was forced to move into East Germany. Her brother, Siegfried Pohl, eventually helped the family relocate to Linz, Austria. This is where she met Sgt. Homer Williams while he was serving with the US Army in Austria. They came back to the United States and were married on December 30, 1955, in Olympia, WA. Homer redeployed to Germany and, while there, they had their first and only son, Gregory. After retiring from the service, Homer and Walburga moved to Brainerd, MN. They later relocated to Moorhead to be near Gregory and his family.
Walburga was a stay at home mom but later worked for a local bakery in Brainerd. She enjoyed baking, gardening, knitting, crocheting and loved to raise beautiful flowers. Walburga always enjoyed a nice glass of Gewürztraminer wine.
Walburga was loved by her family and will be forever missed. She is survived by a son, Gregory (Joni Ruebke) of Moorhead; and granddaughter, Alison Williams of Seattle, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Red River Valley, 1701 38th St. S., Suite 101,
Fargo, ND 58103.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, July 2, 2019, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel in Moorhead. Interment will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN, next to her beloved husband, Homer.
