Waldo "Wally" Morken, Moorhead, MN, died peacefully in his home, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, on Thursday, February 24, 2005, at eighty-two years of age.
Wally was born August 23, 1922, at Walcott, N.D., the son of John G. and Christine (Lokken) Morken. He attended Eagle School #5 near his home. After serving in the U.S. Army from Jan.1945 to Dec.1946 (his tour of duty being Okinawa) he returned to Walcott where he farmed with his father.
On June 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to Mildred Mae Edlund in Wolverton, MN. They continued farming until 1959, when they moved to Wolverton where Wally owned and operated the Wolverton Hardware. He then worked at Rigels in Moorhead, MN, doing television repair. In 1963 they moved to a 40-acre farm near Sabin, MN, where they resided until 2001, when they moved to Moorhead. Wally began work at KXJB-TV in 1964, as an audio engineer until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of Moorhead American Legion Post 21, where he was Sergeant-at-Arms with the Color Guard for many years, and also a member of Moorhead VFW Post 1223.
Wally is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Mildred, Moorhead; three daughters, Karen (Jeff) Williams, Fargo, ND, Linda (donnie betts) Morken, Aurora, CO, and Krista (Jason) Schelhaas, Vista, CA; three sons, Ronald (Sandra), Glyndon, MN, Dennis, Oceanside, CA, Glen (Peggy Neill), Dilworth, MN; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Inga (Emil) Johnson, Fargo, Hilda Vogeler, Galchutt, ND, and Erma (Charles) Hendrickson, Pelican Rapids, MN; one brother, Floyd Morken, Breckenridge, MN; sister-in-law, Grace Morken, Dallas, TX; and many nieces and nephews. Wally was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph, Orvin and Carl; sister, Carrie Baier; and a nephew, Darryl Baier. Wally will be greatly missed.
The memorial service will be Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at 11 AM, in the Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead. A gathering of friends will be Monday, March 7, 2005, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of the Red River Valley.
