Wallace Hoium

Wallace Kermit Hoium, 90, Moorhead, MN, passed away, Monday, May 19, 2014, in Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.

Wallace "Wally" Hoium was born August 6, 1923, in Starbuck, MN, the son of Bennie and Edna (Arneson) Hoium. He grew up and attended school in Starbuck, graduating from Starbuck High School. He then attended Minneapolis (MN) Business College.

Wally worked at the Red Owl Store and the Farmer's Elevator in Starbuck. He served in the US Army for three years, during WWII, in the European Theatre.

Wally married Lorraine Pladson in 1948, in Glenwood, MN. They moved to Fergus Falls, MN, where he worked as a bookkeeper for the Farmer's Elevator until 1953, then went to work for Hallet & Carey, Grain Commission Company, of Minneapolis.

In 1954, the family moved to Moorhead. In 1969, Wally went to work for Benson-Quinn, as an accountant. He continued to work there until he retired in 1985.

Wally was a member of The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Elks, American Legion and the VFW.

Wally is survived by his wife, Lorraine, Moorhead; sons, Steven (Shelly) Hoium and Bruce (Laurie) Hoium, both Moorhead; six grandchildren, Ryan (Shannon), Travis, Heidi, Kaia, Beau, and Hannah, all Hoium; a brother, Jerome (Corrine) Hoium, Starbuck; and many nieces and nephews.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Evelyn; a brother, Ernest; and a brother who died in infancy.

Memorial service is Thursday, May 22, 2014, at 2 PM in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead. Arrangements are by Korsmo Funeral Service, Moorhead.
