Walter Charles Vorgert, son of Herman J. and Anna (Lehner) Vorgert was born on March 17, 1923, at the family farm in St. Anthony, MN. He attended school through 8th grade and worked in farming until age 18, at which time he relocated to Moorhead, MN, and began his employment with Cass Clay Creamery in Moorhead. He served in the Navy from 1943 through 1946, and received an honorable discharge with the rank of Seaman First Class. Walt then returned to Moorhead and his employment with Cass Clay Creamery. He retired in 1985, after 40 years of employment. Walt's trophy from the Red River Valley Dairymen's Association, for achieving 100 points of excellence for his butter making talents, is displayed at Cass Clay Creamery in Fargo.

Walt was united in marriage to Arlene Gervais on June 25, 1949, and they made their home in Moorhead where they raised their three children. He had a natural talent for music and played several instruments. His hobbies included watch repair, gardening and rescuing homeless animals. Walt loved working with his hands and was quite skilled at woodworking and auto mechanics. In his later years, he picked up knitting and made several hats and scarves for family and friends. While at Bethany Retirement Living, he knitted hand warmers and hats for several of the residents, and made quite an impact on his floor. He will be missed.

Walt was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW Club Post 1223 and St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead, where he was an usher for several years.
