Walter Eberhart

Walter "Walt" Eberhart, 82, died peacefully Thursday, December 23, 2004, at ManorCare Health Services, Fargo, ND, after two years of declining health. He will be greatly missed.
Walt was born September 9, 1922, to Adam and Caroline (Oberlander) Eberhart near Eureka, South Dakota. Walter was the oldest of thirteen children. He worked on farms in the area as a young man.
Walter moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1948, and married Dorothy Benson in Audubon, MN on March 5, 1949. Walter worked at Merrill's Texaco in Moorhead from 1948 - 1951. In the spring of 1951, Walter began work as a fuel transport driver for Texaco, Inc. He received a Department of Transportation Award for over three million miles of accident free driving.
In 1978, Walter began driving for Midwest Motor Express. He worked for them until 1980. He then drove a school bus route for Shanley High School. From 1981 to 1987, Walter drove for Indianhead Transport of West Fargo.
Walt enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially ice fishing with his friend, Lloyd. He also had a love for cooking German dishes, baking bread and making home-made ice cream. Walt and Dorothy enjoyed traveling after retirement and Tony and Paul remember having many chances to "sleep over" at Grandpa and Grandma's.
Dorothy died September 8, 1991, and Walter remained in Moorhead. Walter married Donna Simonson in July of 1993, and they made their home in Jeffers, MN. She died in December 2002. In December of 2002, Walt joined Pan and her family at their home in Edina, MN. Adam and Papa developed a strong, loving relationship, spending time playing and watching TV & movies. Tony and Paul enjoyed visiting with Grandpa and talking about their memories of time spent with him and Grandma Dorothy.
Walter is survived by his two daughters, Doris Hebert and her husband Vernon, Fargo, and their children Anthony and Paul Hebert and his finace Heidi; and Pan Hall and her husband Peter, Edina, and their son, Adam Hall; four sisters, Alvina Klein, Herried, Viola Middlestead, Ellendale, ND, Ellen Benson, Fargo, and Lorraine Darling, Rapid City, SD; a special sister-in-law, JoAnn Eberhart; and two brothers, Otto, Sturgis, SD, and Milt, Gilbert, AZ. Walter is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by sisters, Pauline Eberhart and Martha Weidner; and brothers, Herbert, Ernest, Marvin, and Wilbert.
Walter touched many people's lives and was a positive influence to young relatives and friends. As his daughters, we realize how fortunate we were to have had such a loving and nurturing father.
