Wayne E. Wallin

Wayne Eric Wallin was born in Walum, ND, on July 6, 1918, to Eric and Cora (Fogderud) Wallin. His family moved to Steele, ND, in 1926. Wayne graduated from Steele High School in 1935 and Concordia College in 1939.
After working in Minneapolis for the Texas Oil Company, he was drafted into the military in June, 1941. He attended Officer Candidate School, achieving the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. Wayne was stationed in England with the 91st Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force where he served for the duration of World War II. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1978.

Wayne married Phyllis Jeanne Kooker of Dawson, ND, on November 27, 1946. They lived in Steele where Wayne and his brother, Clarence, owned a Chevrolet dealership. He was active in civic leadership roles, as well as serving several terms on the church council of Trinity Lutheran Church in Steele, and singing in the church choir. They had three daughters, Claudia, Barbara and Janel.

In 1954, he sold his interest in Wallin Motor Company and began selling insurance. Wayne and Phyllis moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1957, where he worked for Mutual of New York. He acquired his Chartered Life Underwriter designation in 1958 and continued to work in the insurance business until his retirement.

Wayne was a staunch supporter of Concordia College. He was a member of the C400 organization and served on the National Alumni Board. He rarely missed a Cobber function; recitals, concerts, homecoming or sporting event. He was particularly proud of the many family members who attended his alma mater.

In 2000, Wayne and Phyllis moved to the assisted living center on the Eventide Campus. A diagnosis of dementia necessitated a move into the nursing home in February 2001 where died on Friday, April 13, 2007 at the age of 88.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, his parents, his brothers, Clarence, Norman, and Ralph and a grandson, Sean Toussaint. He leaves daughters, Claudia (Dennis) Hagen, Moorhead, Barbara (Steven) Wieland, Mahtomedi MN, and Janel (Michel) Tou
The visitation will be on Thursday from 5 - 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
The funeral will be on Friday, April 20, 2007, at 2 PM, in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.
Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, Moorhead.
