Wesley Swenson, age 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, in Moorhead Healthcare Center under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Leon Wesley "Wes", the son of Charles and Ella Tillotson.was born in Olmsted County, MN on February 16, 1925. He was adopted by Jalmer and Margaret Swenson in 1936. He grew up and received his education in the Villard, MN, area, where he graduated from high school. Wes served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. He also served five years in the reserves.
On March 16, 1953, Wesley was united in marriage to Dorothy Rhodes. They made their home in the Villard area. In 1970, as part of Daystar Ministries, the couple moved to Federal Dam, MN, Mercedes, Texas, and in 1974, to Fargo, ND. In 1977, they moved to Moorhead, MN, where they had lived since. Wes worked as a stationary engineer for Concordia College and later for Minnesota State University, Moorhead, both in Moorhead. He retired in 1990.
In February of 2004, Wes became a resident of Moorhead Healthcare Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Doris Jean Pioske; and a brother, William Herrly.
Wes is survived by his wife, Dorothy, Moorhead; a son, David (Maria) Swenson, Valley City, ND; four daughters, Deborah (Joe) Valle, Harlingen, Texas, Cheryl Swenson, Moorhead, Sandra (Joe) Morrone, Moorhead, and Leslie ( Darrel) Nehk, Hoffman, MN; a brother, Jim Tillotson, Ray, MN; three sisters, Dorothy Ohm, Rochester, MN, Helen Velde-Corcoran, Monticello, MN, and Ruth Wees, Salt Lake City, Utah; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
