On January 7th, 2025, William H. Gibbons passed away in his home with his family at the age of 82. As his children gather together, we feel blessed to know he was met at heavens gate by his loving wife Rhea Gibbons.
Bill was born in East Grand Forks, MN as the oldest of four children, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Rhea A. Westgaard. They were married March16th, 1961. They moved to Moorhead, MN, and had 3 children: Cari, Jodi, and Billy.
In 1968, Bill started G & K Drywall working with countless different contractors. Eventually his son Billy, joined him in sheet rocking many jobs in and around the area for many years.
Bill was considered a cowboy to those who knew him. The miles he has put on his saddle surpasses that of most cars. He was an avid rider, his longest partner was found in Lemon Drop Kyd, a fleabit Arabian gelding.
He was a member of the Mid-west Minnesota Harness Club and the Flying W-Saddle club for many years where he joined them in numerous wagon trains. He also never missed his annual Cowboy Up Ride Against Cancer.
Bill once said he wanted his legacy to be "He doesn't lie or hurt peoples feelings. I will help anybody I can"
Bill and His wife Rhea were in the whist club group for many years and acquired some amazing long-term friends sharing some great stories and laughter. Bill was proud to donate blood. Starting early in his life making 190 donations resulting in nearly 24 gallons.
Bill is survived by his siblings, Ray (Harriet) Gibbons, Patty Ronholm, Candace Sue Gibbons; his children, daughter, Cari (Steve) Gault, daughter, Jodi (Bruce) Zeller, and son, William (Sarah) Gibbons Jr; 6 amazing grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rhea Gibbons; parents, Edward and Irene Gibbons; sister, Tammy Joe Gibbons; and grandson, Joseph Gault.
A Celebration of Life in his honor will be held May 18, 2025 at the American Legion in Moorhead. Time to be determined.
