Winifred "Winnie" A. Emerson, 89, Moorhead, MN, formerly of Wolverton, MN, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, in her home, Moorhead.
Winifred "Winnie" Anne Rusch was born April 6, 1921, in Antigo, WI, the daughter of Charles and Bessie Rusch. She was confirmed in 1935 at St. Matthew Church, Deerbrook, WI. Winnie attended school in Deerbrook and Antigo, graduating from high school in 1939. She attended vocational school for one year, taking clerical courses.
In 1941, Winnie began working at the International Harvester Company. On October 23, 1948, she married Curtis E. Emerson and they made their home in Milwaukee until 1952, when they moved to Wolverton. Winnie worked as the postmaster for the post office in Wolverton from 1965 to 1982. She also worked part time for the Wolverton Telephone Company.
Winnie was active in the community and held various offices at Faith Lutheran Church and for the city of Wolverton. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, summers at the lake, playing games and cards and being with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, kind heart, and love for the Lord.
Curtis and Winnie eventually moved from Wolverton into Moorhead. Curtis died in November of 2008, and Winnie continued to make her home in Moorhead.
She is survived by a son, Randy (Jann) Emerson, Wolverton; a daughter, LuAnn (Jeff) Weik, Moorhead; three grandchildren, Darci (Michael) Pelland, Bryan (Kimberly) Emerson, and DeAnn (Brad) Miller; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation: Sunday from 3 - 6 PM with a Prayer Service at 5:30 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral: Monday, March 7, 2011, at 11 AM, Faith Lutheran Church, Wolverton.
Burial: Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Wolverton.
