Zygmunt Palowski, 81, Moorhead, MN, died Monday, June 6, 2005, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Zyg was born April 9, 1924, to Adam and Petrusa (Chickonowicz) Palowski, in Springfield, VT. Zyg attended local schools and received his machinist apprenticeship training at Jones & Lamson Machine Company while in high school. Zyg graduated from Springfield High School in 1942.
Zyg enlisted in the US Navy and attended basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Additional machinist training was done at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis campus, where he met his future bride-to-be.
Zyg served in the Pacific Theatre and was discharged May 24, 1946. Zyg married Delores Fischbach, on August 3, 1946, in St. Paul, MN. They made their home with their two children in the Twin Cities until they moved to Moorhead in 1964. Prior to their move, Zyg attended the William Dunwoody Industrial Institution, Minneapolis, specializing in die making.
Zyg was vice president of Atlas Products, sister company of Silverline Boats, Moorhead. He also owned and operated Zyg's Machine and Tool Company. He retired in 1989, and they continued to reside in Moorhead. Zyg was a life member of Moorhead VFW.
Zyg is lovingly survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Delores; one daughter, Nannette (Dennis) Bakko, Walcott, ND; one son, Dennis (Diane) Palowski, Arthur, ND; four grandchildren, Shaina and Jared Bakko, West Fargo, ND, and Chad and Adam Palowski, A
Visitation for Zyg will be Thursday, June 9, 2005, from 6 - 8 PM, with a vigil service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, 409 - 8th St. S., Moorhead. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, June 10, 2005, at 1 PM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead. I
